Basketball Game Preview: Harlingen Cardinals vs. Veterans Memorial Chargers

Harlingen and Veterans Memorial are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2015, but not for long. The Harlingen Cardinals will take on the Veterans Memorial Chargers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Harlingen's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 18 matchups.

On Tuesday, Harlingen humbled San Benito with a 69-39 victory. The Cardinals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 20 points or more this season.

Among those leading the charge was Marcus Gutierrez, who posted 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremy Bedford, who put up ten points.

Meanwhile, Veterans Memorial was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 33-32 heartbreaker at the hands of San Benito.

Harlingen has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 games, which provided a nice bump to their 26-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.1 points per game. As for Veterans Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 11-21.

Harlingen didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Veterans Memorial in their previous meeting two weeks ago, but they still walked away with a 69-64 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Harlingen since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
