Football Game Preview: Mathis Pirates vs. Edna Cowboys

The Mathis Pirates will take on the Edna Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mathis has given up an average of 30 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Mathis is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight games on Friday. They took a 34-15 bruising from London.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Edna). They took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 56-2 victory over Aransas Pass. The win continues a trend for the Cowboys in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won seven in a row.

Mathis better keep an eye on Maverick Robertson. He was instrumental in Edna's win, rushing for 89 yards and a pair of TDs. What's more, Robertson posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in November of 2024.

Edna was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 215 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Aransas Pass only rushed for six.
