Baseball Game Preview: Sequoia Ravens vs. Aragon Dons

The Sequoia Ravens will head out to challenge the Aragon Dons at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sequoia has three straight victories, Aragon has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Sequoia's win against Sacred Heart Prep wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Ravens had just enough and edged out the Gators 6-4.

Morgan Winfield spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Sequoia's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 7-1 (and 5-8 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Logan Mathias and Drew Ostrander did most of the damage at the plate: Mathias went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Ostrander went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Sequoia is undefeated when Mathias posts two or more runs, but 8-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Vince Olinger Giani, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Sequoia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sacred Heart Prep only managed four hits.

Meanwhile, Aragon didn't have quite enough to beat Terra Nova on Tuesday and fell 3-2.

Aragon's loss dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Sequoia, their victory bumped their record up to 12-9.

Sequoia beat Aragon 6-1 in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Do the Ravens have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
