Softball Game Preview: Lexington Minutemen vs. Ashland Arrows

For the second straight game, Lexington will face off against Ashland. The Minutemen will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against the Arrows at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lexington has six straight victories, Ashland has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Lexington barely beat Ashland the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Minutemen were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Arrows on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Minutemen, who have now won 12 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Makaree Chapman made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Kylie Thornton was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Camryn McGuire was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Lexington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.

Lexington pushed their record up to 15-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Ashland, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.
