Softball Recap: Belton Drops Season-High Score on Ellison

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Belton). They never let the Ellison Eagles get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Tigers with their most commanding win of the season.

Belton got a big performance out of Hailey Schutz, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-1. Schutz has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Tara Stone was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Schutz wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Belton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Belton and bumps their season record up to 8-12. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-13 Ellison and 8-9 Chaparral. As for Ellison, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Belton Tigers face off against Waco Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Waco has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.9 runs per game on average), something Belton will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Ellison, they will be playing at home against Chaparral at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.39 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
