Softball Game Preview: Apollo Hawks vs. Sunnyslope Vikings

Apollo is 1-9 against Sunnyslope since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. Apollo will square off against Sunnyslope at 3:45 p.m. Apollo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.

Apollo managed to slip by West Point the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Apollo lost 18-11 to West Point on Tuesday. The Hawks just can't catch a break and have now endured five losses in a row.

Apollo got a massive performance out of Taylor Veloz, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Those four runs gave Veloz a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Michelle Ngchar, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, Sunnyslope suffered their closest defeat since April 22, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of Willow Canyon by a score of 11-9. The loss continues a trend for the Vikings in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost three in a row.

Sophia Pi?a and Peyton Udall stepped up to the plate in a big way. Pi?a scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Udall scored three runs while going 1-for-5. Sam Hyde was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Sunnyslope's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Apollo, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Apollo might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from Sunnyslope in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. Can Apollo avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
