The Aurora Central Trojans will face off against the Arvada Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Aurora Central has given up an average of 9.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Aurora Central is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 15 runs last Monday, they were much more limited against Adams City on Thursday. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 12-2. The Trojans haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Aurora Central saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andres Aguillera, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Another was Anderson Rodriguez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, while Arvada put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Mitchell. The Bulldogs blew past the Marauders 10-0. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by seven runs or more this season.
Harley Medina made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Arvada: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-6 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cameron Henderson, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Arvada's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 8-1 (and 3-6 when he doesn't). Asher Buehrle was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Arvada always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April.
Arvada's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-7. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Aurora Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Aurora Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like Arvada struggles in that department as they've averaged .494. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
