Basketball Recap: Alvin Yellowjackets vs. Alief Taylor Lions
The Alvin Yellowjackets lost against the Alief Taylor Lions back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Alvin took a 61-43 bruising from the Lions. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Alvin in their matchups with the Lions: they've now lost five in a row.
Alvin's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Elijah Mckinzy, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds, and Jacob Cao who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Nathan Kongolo continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Alief Taylor, scoring 17 points along with two steals. Tae Malik was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Alvin has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-18 record this season. As for Alief Taylor, they pushed their record up to 17-9 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
Alvin will take on the Fighting Crusaders at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Strake Jesuit presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Yellowjackets in Texas (the Fighting Crusaders are ranked 367th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 802nd). As for Alief Taylor, they will head out on the road to challenge the Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Dawson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Wednesday.
