Softball Preview: Richmond Spartans vs. Summit Christian Academy Eagles
Richmond has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will head out to square off against the Summit Christian Academy Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
Richmond lost 19-4 to Lexington on Thursday. The Spartans have struggled against the Minutemen recently, as their game on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Summit Christian Academy waltzed into their match on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They blew past the Blue Tigers 16-1. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.
Reagan Crooks was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Crooks was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Katchen Gillihan was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI and two runs. Another player making a difference was Macy Batchelder, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Summit Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
Richmond's loss dropped their record down to 0-15. As for Summit Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
