Basketball Recap: Donovan Coates' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Collinsville over East St. Louis

Collinsville was the 68-63 winner over East St. Louis when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Collinsville Kahoks took a 55-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the East St. Louis Flyers on Friday. The Kahoks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Collinsville's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Donovan Coates, who posted 12 points and seven rebounds. Solomon Talbott was another key player, putting up nine points and five boards.

Collinsville's loss dropped their record down to 13-13. As for East St. Louis, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 13-14 record this season.

Looking ahead, Collinsville won't have much time to rest: their next game is against MICDS at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Collinsville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.9 points per game this season. As for East St. Louis, they will head out to take on Belleville West at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
