Baseball Recap: Milford Wins Going Away Against Hoopeston

After losing to Hoopeston the last time they met, Milford decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Bearcats blew past the Cornjerkers 7-1 on Wednesday.

Caleb Clutteur made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out 15 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Milford's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is undefeated (and 6-9 when he doesn't). Clutteur was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Aiden Frerichs was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted over his last 11 games. Another player making a difference was Cohen Cheever, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Milford has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Hoopeston, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season.

Milford will square off against Covington at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bearcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Hoopeston, they will challenge Watseka at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
