Basketball Recap: Statesville Greyhounds vs. St. Stephens Indians

Statesville lost against St. Stephens back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Statesville Greyhounds were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 36-35 to the St. Stephens Indians. While the Greyhounds didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Indians 12-8 in the first quarter.

Several Greyhounds players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ava Waugh, who posted four points along with five boards and three blocks. Symerria Harris was another key player, putting up seven points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Statesville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Stephens only pulled down six offensive rebounds.

Kennedy Blevins continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for St. Stephens, earning 24 points in addition to six boards and six steals. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which Blevins has scored at least a third of St. Stephens' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Parson, who had six points and five rebounds.

Statesville's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-9. As for St. Stephens, their win bumped their record up to 6-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Statesville will challenge Hickory at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Stephens, they will face off against Foard at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Jessica Bailey and Blevins.
