Basketball Recap: Verbena Takes a Loss

Verbena was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were beaten by the Maplesville Red Devils 71-26. The contest marked Verbena's lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Verbena lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Caleb Short, who posted four points. Short is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 13 games he's played. Kamari Ceasar was another key player, putting up six points and five rebounds.

Maplesville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chris Simon led the charge by earning 17 points. Another player making a difference was Devon Nix, who put up 11 points and five assists.

Verbena's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Maplesville, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Verbena will host Autaugaville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Maplesville, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Marion at 7:30 a.m.
