Football Recap: Winona Comes Up Short

Winona was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 50-14 loss at the hands of the New Diana Eagles. The Wildcats lost against the Eagles in their previous head to head back in September of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 65-0 score last time.

When it comes to explaining why Winona lost, don't look at Easton Smotherman. Despite the final result, he threw for 262 yards and a pair of TDs on only 18 passes.

Winona's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for New Diana, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-2.

Coincidentally, Winona and New Diana will both be playing West Rusk the next time they take the field. The Wildcats will host the Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Eagles will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on the 10th.
