League recap: Ragland tops Sumiton Christian to extend winning streak

Ragland extended the longest winning streak in 1A Region 6 this week by beating Sumiton Christian, 56-17. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.

Appalachian and Shades Mountain Christian played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Appalachian eventually emerging with a 7-3 victory.

Ragland's KiJana Lindsay and Jimmy Brock have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Lindsay has thrown for 675 yards this season, while Brock, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 14 catches for 389 yards. Hunter Woodall from Falkville leads the league in rushing with 899 yards.

The top two teams in 1A Region 6 will face off this week when first place Ragland takes on second place Falkville. Last week, Jonathan Nix's team beat the Eagles, while the Blue Devils fell to Addison.

There should be lots of points scored when Falkville and the Purple Devils face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Joel Schrenk's team comes in having scored 221 this season, while Ragland has scored 328. The Blue Devils scored 12 points last week as they fell to the Bulldogs.

The Purple Devils led the league in scoring this week after putting up 56 points on Sumiton Christian. Lindsay threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 51 yards in the win.
