Baseball Recap: Union City Wins Going Away Against Monroe Central

It's playoff time, and Union City had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against the Monroe Central Golden Bears on Saturday as they made off with a 9-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Caleb Lutz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Union City is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-10 otherwise. Lutz was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Jayson Connor was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Union City is undefeated when Connor posts three or more hits, but 8-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brayden Huggins, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Union City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory made it two in a row for Union City and bumps their season record up to 11-11. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Monroe Central, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 14-14 record.

As of now, neither Union City nor the Golden Bears have any future games scheduled.
