Baseball Game Preview: St. Elizabeth Hornets vs. Prairie Home Panthers

St. Elizabeth is on a nine-game streak of home wins, while Prairie Home is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Hornets will host the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Elizabeth is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

St. Elizabeth barely beat Linn the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hornets never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Monday. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Aiden Otto looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gavin Williams was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Reinkemeyer, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

St. Elizabeth always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Linn only posted an OBP of .304.

Meanwhile, Prairie Home was able to grind out a solid victory over Fayette on Thursday, taking the game 4-1.

Prairie Home is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for St. Elizabeth, their victory bumped their record up to 18-7.

St. Elizabeth took their win against Prairie Home when the teams last played back in May of 2016 by a conclusive 12-6 score. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
