Softball Recap: Avoyelles Comes Up Short

Avoyelles extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping them down to 9-8. They came up short against the Bunkie Panthers, falling 11-0. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for Bunkie, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-12. Considering they have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Bunkie's part, Brianna LaBorde and Andi Bettevy did most of the damage at the plate: LaBorde went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI, while Bettevy went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Those two runs gave LaBorde a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Braelyn Ferguson, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs.

While Avoyelles had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
