Softball Game Preview: Sherman Tide vs. Midland Trail Patriots

Sherman is a perfect 5-0 against Midland Trail since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Tide will square off against the Patriots at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Saturday, Sherman earned a 6-3 victory over Tug Valley.

Midland Trail came out on top against James Monroe on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Patriots were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Mavericks. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Mavericks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Madison Rader was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Nevaeh Hall was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Abby Parcell was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Midland Trail kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as James Monroe only managed ten hits.

Sherman has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Midland Trail, their record now sits at 7-9.

Sherman came out on top in a nail-biter against Midland Trail in their previous meeting last Friday, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tide since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
