Basketball Recap: St. Mary's Piles Up the Points Against Riverside-Durham

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Mary). They blew past the Riverside-Durham Pirates 57-23 on Tuesday. While the Saints didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Janelle Gyampo was her usual excellent self, putting up 13 points and six blocks. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Beatrice Duffy was another key player, posting ten points.

Despite the defeat, Riverside-Durham had strong showings from Beck Arrendondo, who posted seven points, and Au?Nehstii Hagans, who had six points.

The victory (which was St. Mary's fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.8 points per game. As for Riverside-Durham, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

St. Mary's wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 62-12 win against Lee Christian on the 12th. As for Riverside-Durham, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-21 victory against Durham School of the Arts on the 11th.
