Basketball Recap: Del Norte Falls Despite Big Games from Xavier Hovey and Francois Satchivi

After flying high against Rio Grande last Wednesday, Del Norte came back down to earth. The Del Norte Knights took a 51-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Highland Hornets on Friday. The Knights have struggled against the Hornets recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Del Norte's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Francois Satchivi, who posted nine points in addition to six boards and four steals, and Xavier Hovey, who earned nine points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Hovey a new career-high in boards.

Even though they lost, Del Norte smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Highland's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from William Hood, who had three points along with six rebounds and three steals. Treavon Carter was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Del Norte's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-6. As for Highland, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-7.

Del Norte didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-46 win against West Mesa on the 11th. As for Highland, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, an 84-64 loss against Hobbs on the 11th.
