Softball Game Preview: Bishop Montgomery Knights vs. Serra Cavaliers

The Bishop Montgomery Knights will square off against the Serra Cavaliers at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Bishop Montgomery's favor as the squad sits on eight straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Serra has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

On Friday, Bishop Montgomery made easy work of Leuzinger and carried off a 17-4 victory. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.

Macey Kim made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Bishop Montgomery got a massive performance out of Emily Laralin, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits Laralin has posted since back in March of 2024. Bailey Solheim was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.

Bishop Montgomery kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 22 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Serra lost 27-3 to St. Monica on Thursday.

Bishop Montgomery is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Serra, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Bishop Montgomery took their victory against Serra in their previous matchup back in April of 2022 by a conclusive 16-0 score. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
