Softball Recap: El Capitan Now 5-1 over Last Six Games

El Capitan won the last time they faced Helix and things went their way on Monday too. The Vaqueros walked away with a 5-1 win over the Highlanders.

Makenna Burton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brynlie Ford, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Gabrielle Garcia was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

El Capitan has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Helix, they moved to 13-6 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, El Capitan will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against West Hills at 4:00 p.m. The Wolf Pack's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Vaqueros' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Helix, they are taking a road trip to face off against Monte Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
