Basketball Recap: Liberty Comes Up Short

Liberty lost against Landrum back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. 2025 welcomed the Liberty Red Devils with a 50-28 loss courtesy of the Landrum Cardinals. The Red Devils just can't catch a break and have now endured five defeats in a row.

Despite the loss, Liberty saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Madison Henderson posted seven points and six rebounds.

Landrum was led to victory by Sullivan Price and Kylie Fortner. Price dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards, while Fortner earned 23 points and four steals. Fortner is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hazel Cain, who had two points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Liberty's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Landrum, their win bumped their record up to 6-7.

Liberty will be playing in front of their home fans against Pendleton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Liberty is facing Pendleton at the right time seeing as Pendleton is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Landrum, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Landrum Cardinals duke it out with the Blacksburg Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Blacksburg will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Landrum surely won't give up without a fight.
