Softball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Athens' Sixth in Last Eight Outings

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Athens ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Royal Oak Ravens 14-13. The Red Hawks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Ravens, too.

Athens got a massive performance out of Cara Dahlerup, who went 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave Dahlerup a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Leah Dahlerup, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Athens kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are 9-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Athens has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.9 runs over those games. As for Royal Oak, their loss dropped their record down to 18-10-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Athens will venture away from home to face off against Berkley at 2:30 p.m. on the 30th. As for Royal Oak, they will head out to challenge Troy at 12:00 p.m. on the 30th.
