Softball Recap: South Beloit Victorious

South Beloit posted their closest victory since April 8, 2024 on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Ashton-Franklin Center Raiders 9-8. The win continues a trend for the Sobos in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won five in a row.

Whitney Schnack was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, South Beloit let Annabelle Dascher and Macey Lineman run wild. Dascher scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Lineman scored two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Lineman a new career-high in doubles (two). Taniyah Crawford was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

South Beloit now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Ashton-Franklin Center, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Beloit will venture away from home to square off against Alden-Hebron at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Sobos are facing the Green Giants at the right time seeing as the Green Giants are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Ashton-Franklin Center, they will head out to face off against Eastland at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Raiders will also cruise into their next matchup with the timing on their side: the Cougars will have lost four straight heading into Tuesday's game.
