Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Emily Penner and Olivia Cooley Lead Irondequoit to Victory

Irondequoit won the last time they faced Gates Chili and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Eagles put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 3-0 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Eagles as it spelled an end to their three-match losing streak.

The final score came out to 25-17, 25-10, 25-15.

Leading Irondequoit to victory were Olivia Cooley and Emily Penner. Cooley had 13 assists and five digs, while Penner had three digs and two aces. Those three digs gave Penner a new career-high.

They weren't the only good servers: Irondequoit was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 17 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 16 consecutive matches.

Irondequoit's record is now 15-5-3. As for Gates Chili, their loss was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-9.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Irondequoit is set to take on their familiar foe Canandaigua Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Gates Chili will square off against rival Churchville-Chili at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
