Football Recap: Garrett Barham's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Katy Taylor over Cinco Ranch + How To Watch

Katy Taylor extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Friday, dropping them down to 0-5. They fell 35-28 to the Cinco Ranch Cougars. That's two games in a row now that the Mustangs have lost by exactly seven points.

Katy Taylor's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Garrett Barham, who threw for 210 yards and two TDs while completing 75% of his passes. Will Dyson was Barham's top target, picking up 42 receiving yards, while also rushing for 32 yards and one score.

As for Cinco Ranch, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3. The final result isn't all that surprising considering their considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 239th, while Katy Taylor is ranked 582nd).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cinco Ranch to victory, but perhaps none more so than Davis Roup, who threw for 275 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushed for 36 yards. What's more, Roup racked up 129.2 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. Cinco Ranch's leading receiver Jacob Chevez was Roup's top target yet again, picking up 126 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Katy Taylor is set to take on their familiar foe Seven Lakes at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Cinco Ranch will square off against rival Jordan at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 959 yards in their previous games.
