Softball Recap: St. Anne Comes Up Short

St. Anne extended their losing streak to eight on Friday, dropping their season record down to 2-15 in the process. They came up short against the Gardner-South Wilmington Panthers, falling 14-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-3 back in April.

Maya Anderson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Lily Fox was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

As for Gardner-South Wilmington, they pushed their record up to 18-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Considering they have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

On Gardner-South Wilmington's side, Jo Male made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. Male has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kayla Scheuber, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Simms, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles.

St. Anne didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 4-3 victory against Momence on the 12th. As for Gardner-South Wilmington, they have also already played their next contest, a 12-0 win against Illinois Lutheran on the 13th.
