Basketball Recap: Randolph-Macon Academy Comes Up Short

Randolph-Macon Academy came up into this matchup off a tough 21-point loss on Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Wakefield School Fighting Owls by a score of 63-60 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Yellow Jackets have suffered since February 8, 2024.

Despite the loss, Randolph-Macon Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Nolan Kirabo shot 5-for-9 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double with 25 points and ten boards. That's the most points Kirabo has posted since back in December of 2024. David Kayeye was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Randolph-Macon Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Randolph-Macon Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 16-3. As for Wakefield School, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

Randolph-Macon Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Wakefield School, they will square off against Herndon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wakefield School is facing Herndon at the right time seeing as Herndon is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
