Apex faced Willow Spring in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Cougars pulled ahead with a 13-12 photo finish over the Storm. The victory was familiar territory for the Cougars, who have now won three games in a row.

Although Willow Spring took the loss, they still got scores from Kenadie Rebholz and Taylor Stone.

Apex's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Willow Spring, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 4-2.

Coincidentally, Apex and Willow Spring will both be playing Fuquay - Varina the next time they take the field. The Cougars will host the Bengals at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Storm will host them at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
