Preview: Torrington Raiders vs. Wilby Wildcats
Torrington is 8-0 against Wilby since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Torrington Raiders will be playing at home against the Wilby Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Friday, Torrington was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 40-36 to Seymour.
Despite their defeat, Torrington saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Haley Burger, who scored ten points along with two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Lilah Boulli, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Wilby's recent rough patch got a bit rougher two weeks ago after their sixth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 54-32 loss at the hands of Holy Cross. While losing is never fun, Wilby can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while Holy Cross is ranked sixth).
Torrington's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-5. As for Wilby, they bumped their record down to 1-8 with that defeat, which was their 13th straight on the road.
Everything came up roses for Torrington against Wilby in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 62-16 win. With Torrington ahead 39-4 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
