Softball Game Preview: Serena Huskers vs. Seneca Fighting Irish

Serena hasn't had much luck against Seneca recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Huskers will challenge the Fighting Irish at 11:00 a.m. Serena is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.

Serena took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against Plano by a score of 7-3. The win continues a trend for the Huskers in their matchups with the Reapers: they've now won four in a row.

Jenna Setchell and Brynley Glade did most of the damage at the plate: Setchell scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Glade scored two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Glade a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Maddie Young, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Seneca strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They blew past Midland 18-0. Give the Fighting Irish's pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Seneca's victory was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-0. As for Serena, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.

Serena couldn't quite finish off Seneca when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can the Huskers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
