Soccer Game Preview: Valley Center vs. Derby

The Valley Center Hornets will square off against the Derby Panthers on Tuesday. Valley Center's last four matchups have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Valley Center fought the good fight in their overtime game against South on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 3-2.

Meanwhile, Derby waltzed into their contest on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let the Salthawks get on the board and left with a 3-0 win. The result was nothing new for Derby, who have now won seven matchups by three goals or more so far this season.

Derby's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those three games. As for Valley Center, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.

Valley Center took their victory against Derby in their previous meeting back in March of 2019 by a conclusive 3-0 score. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
