Preview: New Milford Green Wave vs. Masuk Panthers
The New Milford Green Wave's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Masuk Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully New Milford focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Wednesday.
New Milford pushed their score all the way to 63, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 71-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of Newtown. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for New Milford in their matchups with Newtown: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite the loss, New Milford got a solid performance out of Armani Checo, who scored 28 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Checo has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Esposito, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Masuk suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. Their tough 63-39 defeat to Kolbe-Cathedral might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Masuk can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while Kolbe-Cathedral is ranked first).
New Milford's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Masuk, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.
New Milford came up short against Masuk when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 51-45. Can New Milford avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
