Softball Recap: Orange Glen Takes a Loss

Orange Glen had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 5-14 to make it four. They came up short against the Classical Academy Caimans, falling 28-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Caimans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 21-8 back in April.

As for Classical Academy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-13. That looming 28-5 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

For Classical Academy's part, Gezylah Key and Layla McKee made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Key pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, McKee pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At bat, Key went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while McKee went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits McKee has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Classical Academy let Caroline Fuller and Sophie Subka run wild. Fuller went 4-for-5 with five runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI, while Subka got on base in all six of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those four hits gave Fuller a new career-high. Adara Pimentel Enriquez was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Orange Glen will take on Guajome Park Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Classical Academy, they will face off against Liberty Charter at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Caimans will need to watch out since the Lions have now posted at least ten runs in their last five matchups.
