Football Recap: Aidan Callanan's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Stillwater over Cambridge/Salem

Stillwater and Cambridge/Salem squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Stillwater had to settle for second. They took a 36-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cambridge/Salem. The Warriors haven't had much luck with Cambridge/Salem recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Stillwater's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aidan Callanan, who threw for 125 yards and three TDs while completing 76.9% of his passes, and also rushed for 72 yards and one score. Callanan's passing game has become a key predictor of the Warriors' success: the team is 3-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-3 otherwise. John Williams was another key player, picking up 95 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

While Stillwater came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Cambridge/Salem: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 44.4%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Bryce Peterson and Caleb Vacula, who each logged one passes deflected. The last time Stillwater's completion percentage was this high was back in September.

Cambridge/Salem found their leader in sophomore Jackson Rowland, who rushed for 177 yards and three scores while picking up 11.1 yards per carry. Those 177 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Rowland.

Stillwater's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Cambridge/Salem, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-1.

As of now, neither Stillwater nor Cambridge/Salem have any future games scheduled.
