Volleyball Recap: Hornell Comes Up Short

After flying high against Wayland-Cohocton on Wednesday, Hornell came back down to earth. The Red Raiders came up short against the York Golden Knights on Thursday, falling 3-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Red Raiders of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2023.

The match finished with set scores of 25-9, 25-23, 25-23.

When it comes to explaining why Hornell lost, don't look at Mia Nasca. Despite the final result, she had 26 digs and two aces. Nasca has been hot for a while, having posted 11 or more digs the last 12 times she's played.

Hornell's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for York, they pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Hornell and York should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Red Raiders will challenge Dansville at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank advantage (78 vs. 315). Meanwhile, York (ranked seventh) will meet Keshequa (ranked 173rd) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
