Soccer Game Preview: Strom Thurmond vs. Ninety Six

The Strom Thurmond Rebels are taking a road trip to square off against the Ninety Six Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Strom Thurmond's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on April 3rd. They came out on top against Batesburg-Leesville by a score of 2-0. Strom Thurmond haven't had any issues with Batesburg-Leesville recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Emerson Holmes and Karrington Miller scored both of Strom Thurmond's goals, bringing their combined season tally to ten goals.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ninety Six). They put the hurt on Laurens with a sharp 12-0 victory on Thursday. Ninety Six might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by three goals or more this season.

Ninety Six's lineup was just a bit different on Thursday as Lillyanna Maggard got a bit more time on the pitch (60 vs. her season average of 35). Maggard made the most of the opportunity, putting up two assists A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.

The win was the fourth in a row for Ninety Six, bringing their record up to 9-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 31 goals over those four contests. As for Strom Thurmond, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.

Strom Thurmond beat Ninety Six by a goal in their previous matchup on April 1st, winning 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rebels since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
