Baseball Recap: Damien Takes a Loss

Damien extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping their season record down to 12-13 in the process. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Los Osos Grizzlies. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Grizzlies this season, with their most recent loss being a 9-4 defeat on Wednesday.

Damien saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Mansour, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Bennett Ramirez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Los Osos, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

On Los Osos' side, Gavin Loeb-Keene looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits.

At the plate, Justin Yeutter and Hunter Meyer did most of the damage at the plate: Yeutter went a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run, while Meyer went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Meyer has posted since back in April. Roberto Topete was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Damien will challenge Rancho Cucamonga at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Los Osos, they will take on Etiwanda at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Grizzlies surely won't give up without a fight.
