Basketball Recap: Caden Heatherly Key Part of Team Effort in Cougars Win

Campbell County had lost three straight, but after bumping their record up to 2-3 on Saturday that streak is in the rearview. They took down the Knoxville A Ambassadors 62-47. That's more bragging rights for the Cougars, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Campbell County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Caden Heatherly out in front who went 7-for-11 to rack up 18 points and five boards. What's more, Heatherly also posted a 64% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jake Hatmaker, who shot 56% from the field en route to 11 points along with eight assists and five steals.

Campbell County was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

As for Knoxville A, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. The game marked their lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the loss, Knoxville A still got an impressive performance from Samuel Alft, who went 7-for-11 on his way to 14 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. With that strong performance, Alft is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Bradford, who posted six points.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Campbell County will welcome Scott at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Knoxville A, they will square off against Knoxville Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
