Softball Game Preview: San Gorgonio Spartans vs. Colton Yellowjackets

The San Gorgonio Spartans will face off against the Colton Yellowjackets at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. San Gorgonio has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight losses, while Colton will come in with six straight wins.

On Friday, San Gorgonio didn't have quite enough to beat Rialto and fell 3-2.

Meanwhile, Colton made easy work of Bloomington on Friday and carried off a 19-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Yellowjackets, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.

ANDREA VARELA was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on VALERIE VARELA, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted four or more RBI the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was SADIE RODRIGUEZ, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Colton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive contests.

Colton's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for San Gorgonio, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8-1.
