Mullen is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Pine Creek 21-18. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mustangs have posted since October 11, 2024.

Mullen's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cole Parsons, who threw for 286 yards and a pair of TDs. Those 286 passing yards gave Parsons a new career-high. Mullen also got a significant boost from Kingston Salazar-Mangrum, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 85 yards.
Meanwhile, Ralston Valley got the win against Columbine on Friday by a conclusive 35-12. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked third, while the Rebels are ranked 34th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ralston Valley's win came from a few key players Mullen will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Zeke Andrews, who rushed for 91 yards and one score on only 11 carries, and also threw for 136 yards and one touchdown while completing 83.3% of his passes. Levi Rillos was another key player, rushing for 70 yards and a pair of TDs on only six carries.
Ralston Valley didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Hunter Essenpreis and Ethan Twedell. Ralston Valley got some further help from Jake Lester: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made ten total tackles.
Mullen's win bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Ralston Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 11-0.
Mullen came up short against Ralston Valley when the teams last played back in September, falling 20-7. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Andrews, who threw for 243 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 50 yards.
