Baseball Game Preview: North Brunswick Scorpions vs. Jacksonville Cardinals

The North Brunswick Scorpions will take on the Jacksonville Cardinals on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

North Brunswick is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They never let West Johnston get on the board and left with a 5-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Scorpions.

Fisher Goodwin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.

Goodwin wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Stacks, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. That's the most runs Stacks has posted since back in February.

Meanwhile, Jacksonville entered their tilt with South Johnston on Friday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 7-3.

Like North Brunswick, Jacksonville also got a great game from a two-way player: Vasco Sutton. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Sutton has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Jacksonville pushed their record up to 15-10 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games. As for North Brunswick, their victory bumped their record up to 9-16.

North Brunswick couldn't quite get it done against Jacksonville in their previous matchup back in April of 2018 as they fell 9-4. Can the Scorpions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
