Baseball Game Preview: Bishop Shanahan Eagles vs. Downingtown West Whippets

The Bishop Shanahan Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Downingtown West Whippets at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bishop Shanahan is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.

Bayard Rustin hit Bishop Shanahan with a four-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles lost 11-4 to the Golden Knights.

Kieran Deal made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Downingtown West and Unionville meet (six straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Whippets blew past the Longhorns 10-2.

Andrew Nemchik looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brett Connolly was incredible, going 3-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Luke Dovidio also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Downingtown West is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Bishop Shanahan, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.

Bishop Shanahan came out on top in a nail-biter against Downingtown West in their previous meeting on April 1st, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
