Volleyball Recap: Mentor Cardinals vs. Strongsville Mustangs
Mentor had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They had just enough and edged the Strongsville Mustangs out 3-2 on Thursday. The win was nothing new for the Cardinals as they're now sitting on three straight.
The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Mentor who won the one that mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-15, 21-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-13.
Mentor's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Abby Ferritto led the charge by getting seven digs and 21 assists. Another player making a difference was Riley Hoynes, who had 16 digs.
Mentor has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. As for Strongsville, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 15-8 record.
After both having extra time off, Mentor and St. Joseph Academy will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
