Baseball Game Preview: Morenci Wildcats vs. Santa Rita Eagles

Morenci has gone a perfect 5-0 against Santa Rita recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Monday, Morenci didn't have quite enough to beat Pima and fell 8-7.

Morenci got a massive performance out of Christopher Lopez, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Lopez has become a key player for the Wildcats: the team is 6-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Shane Seballos, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Santa Rita was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 19th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 27-1 to Bisbee.

Santa Rita's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Morenci, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.

Morenci's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Santa Rita, though, as they've been averaging only 0.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Morenci continue to outrun the ball?

Morenci took their victory against Santa Rita in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 16-2 score. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
