Football Recap: Kirby Gets the Win

Kirby was handed a 51-point defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They skirted past the Lakeland Preparatory Lions 29-27. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since October 4, 2024.

Despite the loss, Lakeland Preparatory still got an impressive performance from Brett Godwin, who threw for 205 yards and three TDs, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. Colten Kirby helped Godwin out on the ground, rushing for 144 yards.

Kirby is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 28.4 points over those games. As for Lakeland Preparatory, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Kirby and Lakeland Preparatory will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Cougars see the field they'll take on Fayette Ware at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th. As for Lakeland Preparatory, their break will end when they face Craigmont at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th.
