Baseball Game Preview: Kirbyville Wildcats vs. West Hardin Oilers

The Kirbyville Wildcats will square off against the West Hardin Oilers at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Kirbyville has five straight victories, West Hardin has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Kirbyville's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Deweyville 10-0. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.

Cooper Murphy made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Murphy was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

In other pitching news, Brady Reagan looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Back at the plate, David Fussell was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Michael Stephens was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, West Hardin came up short against Douglass on Saturday, falling 14-2.

West Hardin's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Kirbyville, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.

Kirbyville took their victory against West Hardin in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 11-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kirbyville since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
