Softball Recap: Chelsea Takes a Loss

Chelsea was the 7-5 winner over Austin when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Hornets fell just short of the Black Bears by a score of 5-4 on Friday. That's two games in a row now that the Hornets have lost by just one run.

Lorelei Beck put in work while hitting and pitching. She tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run.

In other batting news, Sadie Wilson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Caroline Brown, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and one stolen base.

Chelsea has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 24-13-1 record this season. As for Austin, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 32-12-1.

Chelsea has already played their next match, a 3-3 draw against Oakland on the 18th. As for Austin, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 6-3 loss against Thompson on the 18th.
